WriYe 2018

So, I did it. In a sudden fit of (in)sanity, I signed up for WriYe 2018.

The last time I tried this was back in 2010. Back then, I fell out of it at some point during the year. I don't know if I'll be able to keep up this time either, but at least it's worth a try... and having some inspiration to write is always nice.

I asee the message board, but I don't see the question answered anywhere... what is WriYe?

It's a writing challenge. You decide how many words you want to write during a year. Then you sign up with your chosen word count. I think it's inspired by NaNoWriMo, except it lasts for the whole year. The message board has writing challenges and activities to keep you motivated to write, but there are also chat posts. If doesn't seem to be a very big community, though.

oh so it's basically gywo in a message board forum instead of DW? hmm.

Looks similar, yes. Well, GYWO has a minimum goal of 75,000 words, which is too daunting for a slow writer like me. So I picked 50,000 at WriYe instead.

ah, I was able to get 200k this year but next year I only pledged 75k because I want to edit. I haven't done that at all this year.

Very cool! I remember I had enjoyed WriYe back then (did we do it the same year, maybe?) All these challenges really help with motivation. I was almost tempted to join, but I'm focusing on Android programming this year.

Yes, we did it in the same year. I think it was even you who made me aware that it existed.

Focusing on programming sounds good. At least you learn new skills this way, and you can make something useful. With writing, I will probably end up writing about the same topics I usually do :D.

Maybe I can write more than I did during the last few years, though? I picked 50k as my goal, so let's see.

Good for you! I don't dare try WriYe because I'm afraid I wouldn't finish, but I do usually love joining things like this!

To be honest, I don't think I will finish it either - I simply don't write consistently enough. It's nice to have it there as a challenge, though - and maybe it will make me write more than I would do without it. I hope so :)
